Overview

The Electrical Commissioning Agent will provide commissioning services for new and existing buildings. This includes performing electrical engineering document and shop drawing peer reviews, preparing electrical systems/equipment commissioning documents, working in the field conducting installation reviews of electrical systems/equipment including power, grounding, emergency power systems, lighting, and lighting control systems, fire alarm and security systems, and electrical renewable energy systems; witness functional testing of electrical systems.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Prepare and recommend testing & commissioning solutions to the Project Manager or Client.
  • Delivers solutions to Project Manager or Senior Engineer to address future Client needs and provide a cost analysis on testing solutions.
  • Ensures the performance of all field testing on substation equipment is completed accurately and safely.
  • Performs demonstration tests (series of functional tests designed to simulate real-world conditions to ensure proper operation of yard equipment), as required.
  • Develops and executes substation equipment test procedures.
  • Provide technical instruction, mentoring, and guidance, with regard to substation systems and electrical power systems, to field testing technicians.
  • Develop testing & commissioning departmental and project requirements.
  • Ensure compliance of testing QA/QC process.
  • Regularly meet and correspond with Clients and outside personnel with the responsibility to act independently on technical matters related to testing & commissioning.
  • Manages marketing efforts for key pursuits.
  • Consults with Clients on testing and commissioning projects.
  • Produce Commissioning reports and meeting minutes.
  • Maintains client relationships with client field personnel.
  • Supervises the work of Commissioning Technicians.
  • Manages multiple commissioning projects.
  • Upholds BTME's owner advocacy philosophy and organizational core values.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position is Full-Time, Exempt, and reports to the Vice President of Commissioning.

Qualifications

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Asociates Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Power & Controls.
  • 5 - 10 years' experience in electrical systems, engineering, and design.
  • Commissioning Certification from ACG, BCxA, ASHRAE or must obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • Experience with construction processes: electrical systems installation and functional test reviews.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical industry standards.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with the owner, contractor, and design team in a professional manner.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with HVAC systems and controls.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Well-versed in the industry and the Company's competitors.
  • Excellent multitasking skills, with the ability to perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Attention to safety.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Advanced in the use of testing equipment and tools.
  • Proven marketing knowledge and/or client relationships with testing and commissioning clients.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Master Electrician in lieu of degree.
  • Experience in building construction and codes.

Travel Requirement

  • Typically averages from 25% to 40% of the time.

Physical/Work Environment Requirements

  • Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and/or poles.
  • Climbing stairs.
  • Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Operating machinery and/or power tools.
  • Outdoor elements such as precipitation, heat, cold, and/or wind.
  • Noisy environment.
  • Light to heavy work that includes adjusting and/or moving objects from 20-100 pounds.
