Overview

The Project Manager I

The Project Manager I is responsible for the entire life cycle of a project from inception to closure. Ensures the project is delivered efficiently and effectively in accordance with the project scope, schedule, deliverables, risks, and expectations to deliver a successful project and exceed the Client's expectations.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Participate in business development activities through responses to the Request for Qualifications (RFQ), Request for Proposal (RFP), and participation in project interview presentations.
  • Work with the Client (internal or external) to define the project scope, schedule, deliverables, risks, and expectations to deliver a successful project.
  • Develop a proposal to document the project scope, schedule, deliverables, measures of success, and associated fees.
  • Develop an internal Work Plan to define revenue and budgets for the following: hours, internal cost, travel, and sub-consultants. Also, estimate reimbursable amounts.
  • Ensure the revenue and budget estimates are entered into the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to accurately reflect the execution of the project.
  • Work with Leadership to ensure the project is correctly resourced per the established budgets and schedule.
  • Schedule the project tasks and resources to ensure the agreed-upon schedule is met within the budget constraints established.
  • Establish a project Kick-Off meeting and ensure all team members and Clients are effectively communicated with throughout the project.
  • Manage team members and sub-consultants to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Continuously track and report project execution against budget in terms of schedule adherence, deliverables, cost, and revenue.
  • Where appropriate, technically direct/execute aspects of the project.
  • Manage/exceed the client's expectations.
  • Ensure the project is closed out and all commercial aspects are completed.
  • Participate in relevant organizations for networking and professional development.
  • Any other duties as assigned by Company Leadership.

This position is Full-Time, Exempt, and reports to the Engineering Director.

Qualifications

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate Degree in a Technical or Engineering discipline, Construction Management, or related discipline.
  • 5 years of experience in one of the following sectors: engineering design, construction, facilities management, or energy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience leading and managing a team of technical staff.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and planning skills.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Project Management Institute (PMI) Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) qualification.
  • Successful completion of the Bernhard Project Management training for internal candidates.

Travel Requirements

  • 20-30% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location.

Physical/Work Environment Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Climbing stairs.
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often kneeling, standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Quiet environment.
  • Light work that includes adjusting and/or moving objects up to 20 pounds.
