Overview

Description of Electrical Designer I Position

The Electrical Designer I performs technical activities on assigned projects under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer. This includes participation in technical studies, investigations, and designs on assigned projects. The Electrical Designer assists the project team in the production of projects that are on-time, within budget, and of the utmost quality. The responsibilities of the Electrical Designer include the complete electrical design of their assigned project, as well as other project tasks.

Responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities of Electrical Designer I

  • Designs and prepares drawings for electrical systems for building projects, including conducting code review, lighting calculations, lighting and receptacle layout, one-line diagrams, branch circuit, feeder, and service calculations, etc., under the supervision of a licensed professional electrical engineer.
  • Attends meetings with owners, clients, and/or architects as needed; Prepares and distributes meeting notes.
  • Conducts site surveys to determine existing facility conditions or proposed conditions.
  • Assists the design team in coordination with other disciplines including architectural, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, structural, civil, etc.
  • Accompanies senior-level staff/project manager in performing project site visits during construction to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications, owner expectations, and building codes.
  • Assists in preparing punch lists and project observation reports to note findings.
  • Actively attends in-house and external training sessions to obtain knowledge in necessary technical areas.
  • Participates in industry organizations and attends events, meetings, and activities.
  • Upholds TME's owner advocacy philosophy and organizational core values.

Qualifications

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • 2-year Technical Degree or Associates Degree in Electrical-Related Field, or 2 - 3 years of experience as an electrical designer for an engineering or architectural/engineering design firm, or Electrical Program / Course / Classes at a Community College, plus 1-3 years experience as an electrician working for an Electrical Contractor, or Journeyman Electrician License.

Skills

  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Revit, and AutoCAD.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Well versed in the industry and the Company's competitors.
  • Excellent multitasking skills, with the ability to perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with larger commercial projects including healthcare, higher education, laboratory, and central energy plant projects.

Travel Requirements

  • 25% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location.

Physical/Work Environment Requirements

  • Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and/or poles.
  • Climbing stairs.
  • Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Operating machinery and/or power tools.
  • Outdoor elements such as precipitation, heat, cold, and/or wind.
  • Noisy environment.
  • Light to heavy work that includes adjusting and/or moving objects from 20-100 pounds.
