The Business Development Director will work directly with the VP of Business Development and lead efforts in sourcing and structuring energy infrastructure programs, with a primary focus on investment-grade health systems.
Specific responsibilities include:
• Develop and implement strategic plans to penetrate new markets and strengthen existing markets in accordance with the business goals established by leadership.
• Coordinate with in-house and third-party experts in legal, tax, accounting, project finance, credit, modeling, energy engineering, and construction to inform the structuring and negotiating of concession programs.
• Develops and maintains relationships with clients, agents, and collaborators.
• Conducts market research and provides analysis and recommendations to firm principals.
• Assess customer needs through the synthesis of customer financial, credit, and asset data to inform and develop a compelling narrative for EaaS transactions.
• Develops image and positioning strategies.
• Coordinate with in-house and third-party experts in legal, tax, accounting, project finance, credit, modeling, energy engineering, and construction to inform the structuring and negotiating of concession programs.
• Established Lead Tracking System.
• Balance the customer’s key objectives and Bernhard’s strengths and resources to align incentives and form a workable, long-term solution, which is characteristic of a successful partnership.
• Leverage opportunities to connect talent and clients, creating new and innovative relationships and outcomes.
• Identifies opportunities and manages teaming efforts for submittals, responses, interviews, presentations and related activities.
• Thoughtfully establish the appropriate fact pattern early in the development process to meet each transaction’s optimal accounting and tax treatment and advocate for that treatment with Bernhard’s and customers’ accounting and tax advisors.
• Manages and directs the development of proposals, qualifications packages, presentations and marketing collateral material for projects this individual oversees.
• Provide multidisciplinary support in the concession structuring process, from origination through development and negotiation to commercial operation.
• Prepares interview teams; participates in proposal kickoff meetings.
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in STEM, Business, Finance, Economics, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in investment banking, public finance healthcare, financial advisory in debt capital markets, management consulting, energy-as-a-service, project finance, or related.5 years’ of demonstrated business development experience.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and group presentation skills, including a demonstrated ability to tailor the presentation of technical or complex concepts to an audience.
• Detail oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects and across corporate functional teams in a fast paced environment.
• Strong command of GAAP accounting standards and ability to interpret financial statements.
• Advanced experience in Excel-based financial modeling.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate while driving and building consensus with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
• Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to integrate deep legal, tax, accounting, project finance, credit rating impact, and energy modeling into complex transactions or strategic decisions.
• Excellent multitasking skills, with the ability to perform duties outside of scope of work when necessary.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications
• Graduate degree in Finance, Business, or related field.
• Experience in the architectural, engineering, construction, finance or real estate industry.
Travel Requirements
• 30% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location.
