Overview

The Divisional Financial Manager Responsibilities

The Divisional Financial Manager is responsible for monitoring all financial aspects of projects in the division, including expected contract values, change order exposure, cost-to-date, forecasted cost and anticipated gross profit based on specific project budgets and project phases, work progress, craft productivity and other factors. The Divisional Financial Manager has overall responsibility for reviewing, and communicating project financial results with project teams and management.

Responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities for Divisional Financial Manager

  • Regularly perform financial project reviews to validate anticipated gross profit derived from expected contract values and forecasted cost and report on project profitability to management.
  • Prepares reports and analysis providing support and direction to ensure project management and field supervision are managing labor on a week over week basis and maintaining a reasonable labor forecast and understanding of expected labor savings or overage throughout each project.
  • Monitors manpower plans against planned work, the related estimate and actual results and provide feedback to project management and supervision.
  • Regularly review costs and commitments for equipment, subcontract, material and other direct job costs to ensure project management is maintaining a reasonable forecast and understanding of expected cost savings or overage throughout each project.
  • Ensures contract value in accounting system reflects change orders and minimize change order exposure by monitoring change orders from pending to confirmed, especially monitoring the timeliness of getting change orders confirmed where work begins before confirmed.
  • Monitors timeliness of billings and Over/Under billings with understanding of billing schedule of values and the billing process, including auto-billing of GMP and/or T&M projects.
  • Monitors accounts receivable and ensure managers are focused on timely collection.
  • Understands labor calculations, burden and related charges.
  • Understands jurisdictional sales and use tax requirements for the project locations and ensure project management and administration adheres to tax requirements.
  • Ensures plans are established and adhered to for any project specific programs (i.e. Insurance, Owner paid, Sales Tax reimbursement, etc.).
  • Reviews and approves Job Cost Transfers.
  • Participates in project cost code setups including contract cost analysis and change order review.
  • Leads the budget process and prepare division/business unit budgets, including analysis and reporting of actual against budget and present estimates.
  • Continues personal development obtaining knowledge in lessons learned, various available technology and industry strategies to suggest improvements and drive profitability.
  • Ensures project management and project administration are adequately trained to utilize financial tools and software and adhere to policies related to procurement and financial management of projects.

This position is Full-Time, Exempt, and reports to the VP of Operational Financial Performance & Support.

Qualifications

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, analytical, and technology skills.
  • Ability to explain or communicate financial results, findings, and suggestions to project management and executive level management.
  • Ability to train project management and administration in all financial processes and requirements in group and one-to-one settings.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software required (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Versed in the industry and the Company's competitors.
  • Ability to multitask and perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years' experience and a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP required and understanding of ASC 606.
  • Construction accounting experience.
  • Mechanical construction experience.
  • Experience as a cost engineer, cost analyst, or project cost accountant.
  • Proficiency in construction accounting software, budgeting, and scheduling required with experience in PENTA.

Travel Requirements

  • 0-5% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location.

Physical/Work Environment Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Climbing stairs.
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often kneeling, standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Quiet environment.
  • Light work that includes adjusting and/or moving objects up to 20 pounds.
