Overview

The BIM Technician II is responsible for following processes and practices in the creation of quality shop drawings while beginning to navigate the BIM/VDC process as a team member in one of the BIM/VDC Regional Units. Produces quality drawings that transition smoothly into the fabrication and installation phases of construction.

Responsibilities

  • Works with BIM/VDC Manager and BIM Production Lead to read and understand specifications and contract documents and to establish a plan of attack on a project.
  • Utilizes your working knowledge of mechanical and plumbing systems, your ability to read and interpret code, and your understanding of company best practices in the creation of annotated installation and layout drawings.
  • Works with QA/QC team and BIM/VDC Manager to find routing efficiencies that maximize BIM/VDC�s value on a project.
  • Adheres to departmental protocols for file management.
  • Improves technical communication skills while working with multiple parties including field personnel, outsource detailers, and external trade partners.
  • Strives for proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Autodesk Fabrication, Navisworks Manage, Bluebeam and other detailing software.
  • Learns the internal processes of our trusted outsource partners to help the BIM Production Lead and BIM/VDC Manager better optimize the product we receive.
  • Learns the BIM/VDC process including clash detection and embedded data.
  • Learns the BOM, fabrication drawing, and Trimble layout basics.
  • Works with BIM Production Leads and BIM/VDC Manager to understand how a BIM budget is established and how best to maximize your financial impact on projects.
  • Participates in any/all training opportunities at your disposal.
  • Adheres to the departmental code of ethics while exemplifying a level of professionalism that appropriately represents the Company.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in BIM
  • Aptitude for technical means and methods
  • Moderate software (Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Autodesk Fabrication, Bluebeam) knowledge
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Versed in the industry and the Company�s competitors.
  • Ability to multitask and perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary.
  • Working knowledge of the BIM/VDC process in commercial construction.
  • Advanced software (Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Autodesk Fabrication, and Bluebeam) knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and/or plumbing systems, code, fabrication, and installation.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Climbing stairs.
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often kneeling, standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Quiet environment.
  • Light work that includes adjusting and/or moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • 5% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location.
